“Individually their voices can melt cheese, and in duet they can do all-purpose welding.”
– Garrison Keillor, host of A Prairie Home Companion.
Robin & Linda Williams, the Virginia-based duo known for their original songwriting and rich harmonies have performed their hearty blend of bluegrass, folk, old-time and acoustic country as regulars on National Public Radio’s A Prairie Home Companion as well as at appearances on Austin City Limits, Mountain Stage, All Things Considered, and The Grand Ole Opry. They’ve released 20 albums and toured for many years, appearing in arts centers and concert halls, clubs and coffeehouses across the US, Canada and Europe.
They are first-class instrumentalists and superb songwriters, able to, as The Washington Post put it, “sum up a life in a few details with moving completeness.” It’s why their compositions have been recorded by the likes of Emmylou Harris, Mary Chapin Carpenter and The Seldom Scene.
Robin and Linda Williams are joined in concert by Jim Watson on bass, vocals and mandolin. A founding member (together with Tommy Thompson & Bill Hicks) of the Red Clay Ramblers, Watson performed with the Ramblers for 14 years, recording 9 albums. Watson also performs with Duke LaCrosse and Pinky Wyoming, and plays string bass with the bluegrass band, Green Level Entertainers.
Their Fine Group also includes Jimmy Gaudreau on mandolin and mandola. Gaudreau joined the legendary bluegrass band the Country Gentlemen in 1969, and throughout his career has performed with a long list of well-known groups, including his own Country Store, Spectrum (with Bela Fleck), Chesapeake, and Auldridge, Bennett & Gaudreau. In 2005, he was inducted into the “Hall of Greats” of the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music in America.
